Grant Report – Ukuleles!

May 2023

In Fall of 2022, Ms. Wimmers, the Alden Place & Elm Drive Elementary school music teacher applied for a Bright Ideas Grant to purchase 35 ukuleles in various colors along with felt picks, extra strings, colored chord dots and a method book. MEF was delighted to fund this grant and all of the supplies were purchased.

Approximately 230 second through fifth grade students began learning on the ukuleles throughout the 2022-2023 school year, and the instruments can be used for years to come.

When asked about the benefits of this new program, Ms. Wimmers said, “The project has granted students access to an instrument that they can continue to learn and find joy from for the rest of their lives. Students who may not be able to or do not have a desire to participate in band can be taught the skills needed to be musical in other ways. The shared experience of playing the ukulele promotes a sense of community between grade levels and will allow students easily tangible and audible musical growth throughout elementary school.”

2022 Scholarships Awarded

Maryn Morgan was the 1st recipient of the new Good Character Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.

The Good Character Scholarship criteria wishes to emphasize good grades and athletic talent aren’t the only things that can help pay your way through college-simply being a good person can also earn you a scholarship. This scholarship for good character is awarded to a senior student who has, in some way, demonstrated their good character through a specific act or through a commitment to a community or cause. We need to celebrate upstanding members of the community.

Hunter Stoliker was 1 of 2 to be the 18th recipient of the Millbrook Educational Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.

David Sager was the 13th recipient of the John/Agnes Marona Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Olivia was the second of 2 to be the 18th recipient of the Millbrook Educational Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.

Community Letter

March 27, 2022

Dear Millbrook Community, Businesses & Friends,

The past two years have been extremely difficult for our community. The pandemic has challenged us all, both personally and professionally. Many of us are still recovering from its wake. The Millbrook Educational Foundation has counted on the support of our local businesses and community to host our Taste of Millbrook event. We understand the challenges each of you continue to face with staffing shortages and increasing costs of running your businesses. To ease this burden, we have decided to once again pivot from our traditional event and host “The Taste of Millbrook- To Go” on Saturday June 4th.

It is our sincere hope to continue to partner with the amazing business community of Millbrook in 2023. We wish you all continued good health and prosperity.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Millbrook Educational Foundation and we look forward to partnering again in the future.

Sincerely,

Christina A. Myers, Chair

Millbrook Educational Foundation
